Fit-Out

The former American Embassy in London, a 1960 building designed by Eero Saarinen, has undergone a comprehensive restoration and adaptive reuse led by British architect David Chipperfield and developed by Qatari Diar Europe LLP, preserving its status as one of the capital’s most significant architectural landmarks. Joseph Dirand’s interiors – encompassing 144 suites, eight restaurants and bars, and wellness spaces – establish a dialogue between the building’s modernist framework and a warm, material-driven sensibility, expressed through refined palettes and bespoke solutions.

EXA Group delivered the full fit-out of the main public areas – including the entrance and lobby, patisserie and boudoir, Asian restaurant, all-day dining, deli restaurant, and the Members’ Pavilion – working across all architectural and decorative components. The scope included white box works (walls, partitions, subfloors, suspended ceilings), as well as flooring in wood, stone, ceramic, and carpet; acoustic, timber, metal, and mirrored ceilings; and wall finishes in wood, decorative metals, stone, and textiles. The project was completed with the production of bespoke joinery, decorative metalwork for columns, grilles, and handrails, the integration of decorative lighting within fixed furnishings, the supply and installation of acoustic and fire-rated doors, and the installation of kitchen equipment. A highly coordinated technical and craft-led process that contributes to defining the identity of the shared spaces, ensuring execution quality and design continuity.
